The Benefits of Indoor Plants

Whether you’re new to the trend or have been following it for years online, you must know that houseplants are super popular today. They have always been used in interior decorating because they tend to liven up a room, but over the past few years, people have been really embracing the indoor jungle vibe. So why fill up your house with plants? Here are three reasons:

THEY ARE AIR PURIFIERS

This is a well known benefit of houseplants, as they essentially do the opposite of what we do when we breathe. During photosynthesis, plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, removing up to 87% of toxins from the air within 24 hours. Certain plants like snake plants release oxygen at night too, which means they can really freshen up a room as you sleep. Plants also release humidity, which means that having plants around is a great way to avoid dry skin, itchy throats, and the common cold.

THEY REDUCE STRESS AND BOOST HAPPINESS

If you think about it, humans historically lived outdoors for a lot longer than they have been living indoors, so there must be something in our biology which responds to being around nature. A study showed that people felt much more relaxed after interacting with plants through gardening or tending for them, than they do after interacting with technology. Taking care of a living thing soothes us, and watching it grow makes us happy!

PLANTS ARE GOOD LOOKING AND THEY BRIGHTEN UP A ROOM

There’s a reason why plants have grown increasingly popular on photo sharing platforms like Instagram and Pinterest, and that’s because they’re just gorgeous to look at! The large beautiful leaves, multiple options for pots, and the stunningly bright colors are all great reasons to fill your home with plants and brighten it up instantly. Plants have been known to complement any other tones you’ve got going in the home, and add pops of color to otherwise dull spaces. Ask any interior decorator, and they’ll agree that a houseplant is a surefire way to beautify any room!

So there you have it. Plants clean the air around us, have a host of physical and psychological health benefits, and they’re just so pretty!
